Yemanjá Day
On 2nd February, the city hosts one of Candomblé’s largest public manifestations: the Yemanjá party, which takes place at Morro de são Paulo.
As from dawn, filhas de santo and mães de santo, babalorixás, fishermen, tourists and curious people sing and pay their tributes to Yemanjá, in the greatest public religious manifestation of candomblé. The offerings, presents and requests to the Queen of the Sea are placed at Yemanjá’s House and kept in baskets which, at the end of the day, follow the main gift (offered by the fishermen community) and are thrown to the sea by a processing of hundreds of vessels. Odoyá! Salve yemanjá!!
